KUCHING: A string of exciting bouts have been lined up for the first ever Bau International Muaythai Cup Challenge to be held at the Bau bus station on Sept 3.

The event is organized by Kelab Muay Thai SS Fighters Petra Jaya in collaboration with Kuching Muay Thai Association with the support of Sarawak Muay Thai Association, Bau District Office and Bau District Council, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Solidarity, the Youth and Sports Department, the National Sports Council, and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Fifty fighters from Kuching, Samarahan, Bau, Miri, Sabah, West Malaysia, Thailand, Africa, and Indonesia will be in action.

As of press time, there are 26 bouts on the fight card: 16 amateur, three Super-4 fights including the finals, and seven pro-fights including four bouts featuring international fighters.

The Super-4 finals will determine the winner of the Bau International Muaythai Cup Challenge trophy.

Among the highly anticipated match-ups are the pro-bout between SS Fighter’s Samai Intasri (Thailand) and Muhammad Ali Yaakub, the No.1 Malaysian muay thai exponent. The face-off between veterans A-Karadech Seesombat (Thailand) and South Africa’s Ncedo “Nintendo” Gomba is also expected to be hotly contested.

The event provides a platform for clubs to showcase new talent and act as a yardstick to gauge their achievements.

The weigh-in and medical check-ups for amateur bout fighters will be held a day earlier (Sept 2) beginning 7.30pm at SS Fighters Muay Thai Gym, Jalan Semarak, Petra Jaya.

Weigh-ins and medical check-ups for the pro-bout fighters will take place the following day at 8am at the fight venue in Bau.

Entry to watch the event is free.
